How one pitch changes the hitter's expectation and decision space for the next.
Why it matters
A sequence can make ordinary velocity or movement play up by changing timing, eye level, location expectations, or the hitter's willingness to offer.
What to watch
- A setup pitch followed by a different speed or shape
- Repeated location patterns that open another part of the zone
- Put-away pitches that make sense because of what came before
