Walt Brenner spent more than twenty-five years in professional baseball as a bench coach, advance scout, and bullpen coordinator before moving into writing. He worked with three organizations across the National and American Leagues and was known inside clubhouses for his advance work on opposing hitters and late-inning matchups.
At Upon Review, Brenner writes about bullpen sequencing, defensive positioning, leverage management, and the trade-offs managers face when protecting a lead or chasing a tie. His analysis draws on dugout experience and modern run-prevention data without treating either as sufficient on its own.
Brenner is based in Chicago and covers MLB throughout the season.
